'God of War' Team Could Have Made a Sci-fi Space Title; Game Cancelled, Concept Art Leaked
Dannel Picaccio Camille Perez Lozano"God of War" designers revealed some images of what is now a cancelled game. Given that the company is primarily known for its godly series, room for other games is definitely not ruled out. However, such may not be the case.
According to a report by Den of Geek, Santa Monica Studios, the team behind "God of War," has laid off quite a number of people. Not only did this move make a saddening impression on the remaining employees, but on the fans, as well. Santa Monica Studios reportedly scrapped one particular sci-fi game that could have tickled the fancy of many adrenaline junkies.
A Nerdleaks post reportedly had "God of War" images that were soon removed from the website. However, another Imgur page contained not just snippets but the entire array of the claimed concept art. While the illustrations are mere drawings, they imply that the game was no longer a draft, but already at the point of being conceptualized. Presumably, it reached the approval stage on the level of the "God of War" creators.
As for the theme, the images seemed to deliver a space-oriented plot, with unusually gargantuan creatures and extra-terrestrial humanoids. It also appeared to have human characters. One may compare it to the "Mass Effect" franchise, which is set in the 2030s and is all about exploring worlds and salvaging resources; thus, straying from the usual "God of War" theme.
One of the more prominent points within the IP is a character named Donovan August. Fans can also see how there are dinosaur-like entities, drones and a task known as "Ark Mission Genesis-A.D. 2034." So far, no news has emerged from the "God of War" team on whether the game will resurface or even be considered again in the near future. Based on the leaked art, though, it would have been very interesting to play.
