'Colony' Season 2 Episode 7 Recap: The Bowmans Choose Different Paths in 'Free Radicals' [Spoilers]

S. Turla

In "Free Radicals," Bram gets involved with the young labor camp member's plans. "Free Radicals" is the title of "Colony" season 2 episode 7.

According to Entertainment Weekly, "Free Radicals" was an "explosive" episode. In episode seven of "Colony" Season 2, it is "becoming increasingly clear that everyone in the Los Angeles Bloc and beyond is in a fight-or-die situation." Fighting could lead to serious casualties "because a lack of resistance is what's futile right now."

As "Colony" season 2 episode 7 begins, viewers were introduced to two new characters. Frankie Broom, a woman, and her unnamed friend. The two become intimate while toasting "to liberty" as this is a tradition for those tasked with a "suicide mission to backpack-bomb the green zone." However, the man seems to change his mind after seeing the innocent people who will definitely get caught in the explosion.

Sadly, the K-9 units and redhats notice him "exiting the line," and his device still goes off, killing him and others. Frankie is dismayed that the explosion didn't reach "the target," presumably "the redhats at the entrance. The explosion does make a statement: the Resistance still lives to fight another day.

Frankie is also tied to the unnamed man's attack, and Will and Burke must question her family to find her whereabouts. Will must find her to keep his job secure. Burke asks Will where he was yesterday when the latter was helping out BB, but Will "brushes him off."

Will and Burke head to Frankie's aunt and uncle's house and the couple act as if they want Frankie to get caught for being involved in "something illegal." Will wants to leave, but Burke had some redhats take their grandkids to make them talk. Burke's "cruel" plan works.

The partners find Frankie's hideout and they are met with heavy gunfire. Burke kills everyone except Frankie, and Will lets a kid escape. Frankie is interrogated, and Will takes pity on the woman who is being given a mild heart attack. He loosens one of her handcuffs, but this allows Frankie to take a suicide pill. Now they have lost the chance to find out who Frankie is recruiting rebels for.

Will and Burke's boss gets angry, and the latter offers to take on a new partner to remedy the situation. Meanwhile, Bram attempts to steal Snyder's access card. He succeeds and escapes along with Mya. The two take their box, which is a homemade bomb, to the storage room.

Inside are people, or humanoids, sleeping while hooked to breathing tanks. Mya opens one and the woman inside "drowns" in the open air. It's not confirmed if these are people or the hosts who have somehow changed appearances. The bomb goes off, but Bram bursts in tears after realizing what he has gotten himself into.

On the other hand, Katie heads to Broussard's bunker to look into Bram's situation. Katie fears that her sister Maddie's loyalty to the institution. Broussard then tells Katie that Bram only has six more months to go before he is released.

He also tells her the bad news: the Bloc is not a "colony" but a "death camp." Los Angeles will disappear off of the face of the earth in "exactly two years, three months, and nine days." Katie then decides to re-align with the Resistance once more to help Broussard. They both make it their mission to "get out of the Bloc once and for all as a family to survive this thing."

"Colony" Season 2 Episode 7 review from TV Fanatic posits that Maddie could help end the brainwashing. It is also suggested that once LA runs out of "fuel," the Raps will move on to a new "human well."
