Here is another reason why sleeping with your charging phone is a bad idea. According to various reports, a 32-year-old man suffered severe burns after a freak accident.

Wiley Day was charging his iPhone when he fell asleep and suffered the burns. He said that the charger was beside him via an extension chord next to his bed.

Got Jolted When He Woke Up

In a quick chain of events, his dog tag got entangled in the space between the extension cord and charger. Day recalled that he felt the shock and fell to the floor last Thursday morning (March 30).

He kept on yelling "Jesus" in his interview to WAAY-TV and later stated, "I thought that's how you die." Luckily Mr. Day was able to gather his strength and remove the dog tag from his neck.

In a post by Phone Arena, he remembered that his vision started to fade and he could only see black and white. He added that he felt as though he was looking through a peephole.

Apple has not responded to a request to comment. Day said that he suffered second and third-degree burns to his neck and hands. Doctors said that Day was lucky to survive the whole ordeal.

An Example Why Charging And Sleeping Is A Bad Mix

According to CNET, Day revealed on his Facebook page that his current pain level is about a two. He stated that he was "happy to be an example for those who were unaware of the dangers of electronics." Most especially while charging them "while sleeping."

Aside from Day, there have been various reports of electrocution involving charging electronics. Some of them weren't lucky enough to survive the accidents.

Since the boom of electronic devices, the number of electrocuted individuals has risen over the years. Tech experts always have always reminded consumers to avoid charging near danger areas.
