Recent leaks indicate that LG is on track to launch its Optimus Vu 2 soon. Meanwhile, Samsung will reveal the much-awaited Galaxy Note 2 in the U.S. in November of this year. Both the Korean smartphone makers will try to attract "phablet" users for higher market share.
Here is what is on offer from Samsung and LG.
Processor
A 1.6GHz quad-core Exynos processor powers the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. On the other hand, speculations suggest that the LG Optimus Vu 2 will feature a 1.5GHz Qualcomm 8960 dual-core processor with LTE. Both devices will have 2GB of RAM.
Display
The Galaxy Note 2 sports a 5.5-inch HD Super AMOLED display with 1280 x 720 pixels resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio. The LG Optimus Vu 2, like its predecessor the Optimus Vu, is expected to boast a 5-inch display with 1024 x 768 pixels resolution and 4:3 aspect ratio.
Camera
Both the devices offer an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera; however, the Galaxy Note 2 includes a 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera as opposed to the 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera of the Optimus Vu 2.
Storage
The Optimus Vu 2 has only 16GB of on-board storage as opposed to 16/32/64GB internal storage capacities of the Galaxy Note 2. Both the handsets have the option to expand the memory using a microSD card; however, at 32GB, the Optimus Vu 2's memory expansion capacity is half the 64GB expansion memory that the Galaxy Note 2 offers.
Operating System
The Galaxy Note 2 will pack the latest Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, whereas the Optimus Vu 2 will pack in the older version i.e., Android Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) out of the box. LG phablet fans will be hoping for an upgrade to Jelly Bean soon.
Battery
A 2150mAh battery will power the Optimus Vu 2. The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is a clear winner in this category as the device houses a powerful 3100mAh battery.
Stylus
Samsung will offer Galaxy Note 2 along with a stylus called S-Pen which slides neatly into the device itself. No information is available on whether LG will offer a stylus with the Optimus Vu 2. However, unlike the original Optimus Vu's stylus, which does not fit into the smartphone, users will hope that the stylus for the Optimus Vu 2 fits into the device itself.
Availability
Samsung will launch the Galaxy Note 2 in October and November in the UK and U.S., respectively. LG has not revealed a confirmed release date for the Optimus Vu 2, but the device is expected to hit the shelves in October of this year.
With both Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and the LG Optimus Vu 2 having slight differences in features, user preference will determine which device gains more popularity.
