'Star Wars Battlefront 2' Latest News: DICE Applied Massive Overhaul To The Latest Game; Changes In Vehicles, Heroes, Space Commande & More
Keisuke AkioWhen DICE launched the first "Star Wars Battlefront," they designed the game so movie fans could relive their personal battle dreams. However, it appears that this year's "Star Wars Battlefront 2" spells a grander vision than that. Aside from catering on George Lucas' trilogy, this year's game sequel is also including both the younger and older generation.
During the movie's Celebration, Electronic Arts (EA), DICE, and Motive Studios unveiled that the latest game installment for this year will showcase three cinematic era battles. This includes the original trilogy, the prequels, and the latest sequels.
Creative Director Bernard Diemer said that originally, the idea was just the original trilogy, however, he pointed out that the younger generations exposure to the movie was mostly the prequels. This means that new fans who were introduced to the movie in the likes of "The Force Awakens" will be catered in this latest offering from DICE, says Polygon.
In the latest installment, "Star Wars Battlefront 2," gamers will have access to weapons, planets, gadgets, characters, and ships among others from all eras. The developers would like the players to experience all types of characters ranging from Luke Skywalker to Darth Vader and even as a rank and file troopers. A player could be a First Order storm trooper, a Trade Federation Army battle droid, or a Rebel soldier, says IGN.
The latest game overhauled the playable character heroes. While in the first installment where heroes were given moments of power trip and that feeling of being invincible, in the sequel, heroes are more physical and have more presence according to Diemer. Aside from that, hero characters now have a career where players can unlock new abilities as they play. This includes characters like Darth Maul and Yoda, says Mashable.
In the multiplayer, players now will have a new way to access the hero characters. Access now is a resource-based system resource-based system and not through power-ups. Players need to do in-game things and activities to unlock the ability to change a hero into a vehicle and more.
Aside from heroes, the latest game will showcase hero ships also from all eras. This includes Han Solo's Millennium Falcon, and Boba Fett's Slave I. Common ships like X-wings and TIE Fighters will now have unlockable mods and abilities. Matches in the latest game are era specific, so do not expect to use the Trade Federation droid army as the Resistance.
"Star Wars Battlefront 2" will be available to Windows PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. The game will be released starting November 17.
