For a long time, Apple has had a reputation for making decisions on behalf of its users. Apple products are usually quite straightforward with not a lot of options offered for customization that may otherwise be available with other brands.

But if you recently got your hands on a new MacBook and are craving for a more personalized touch, here are a few ways you can tweak your MacBook's look and feel, to complement your own unique style.

Add A New Wallpaper

Your desktop wallpaper is perhaps the image that you see the most. So, if you're looking for ways to add a more personalized touch to your MacBook, changing the wallpaper is a good start. In fact, even if you are revamping your old MacBook, swapping the default wallpaper can give it an entirely new feel. In order to make this change, go to General > Desktop & Screen Saver > Desktop.

When asked to choose, try to either pick a fresh image from the default Mac desktop themes already available, or you can choose to add a nice solid background color. You can even choose one of the options under the Dynamic Desktop section if you would prefer a wallpaper that changes throughout the day. Alternatively, you can access your Photos library from the sidebar to set your wallpaper to a photo you enjoy seeing every day.

However, if you're looking to spice things up further, you can select the wallpaper to switch every hour, or even add useful information to your desktop by selecting an interactive wallpaper. In short, it all comes down to your preferences.

Set Up A Custom Color Scheme

The colors of your system accents and highlights can be mixed and matched in macOS Mojave, allowing you to create a unique color scheme. For this, go to System Preferences > General and select new colors under Accent color and Highlight color. After the system updates its color scheme, the change will appear across buttons, boxes, menus, and other elements.

The Dark Mode option in the same preferences panel is another tweak you might want to look into. Among the new features of macOS Mojave, it gives elements like the Dock, menu bar, app windows, and sidebars a sleek dark appearance. There are no system-wide themes available for Macs, so you must use application-specific themes instead.

Customize The Login Screen

The login screen is the first thing you see on your Mac, so it only makes sense to change it up. That is so every time you switch on your MacBook, you're greeted with a more personalized screen.

To make changes to your Mac login screen, you can start by choosing a new user picture for your account. This can be done by going to System Preferences > Users & Groups > Password.

Once you have made your way to this settings pane, select the existing user picture that is next to your user name in order to swap it out with one from Apple's default image set or your Photos library. Then hit save, and you're ready to go!

You can also put up an entertaining or motivating lock screen message. This option will be available under System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General. Then, you first select the Show a message when the screen is locked.

In the event that the option is grayed out, you will have to select the lock icon placed at the bottom of the pane and then enter your system password once prompted. This will allow you access to the screen message setting.

Next, select the Set Lock Message option, type in whatever you would want the lock screen to display, and hit OK. The new changes will be visible once you restart your Macbook, the message being on the bottom of the screen next to the power options.

Change Your Mac Name

One of the best ways to add a more personal touch to your MacBook is adding your name to it or changing it to whatever fits you best.

Having a recognizable name will especially make things much easier such as sharing files, photos, documents, etc when using AirDrop or Bluetooth accessories. If you're confused about how to achieve this, here's how to rename MacBook.

Add Custom Sounds

Personalization does not have to be limited to visible changes. You can change up the audio settings as well as per your liking. You can change the default system sound by going to System Preferences ->  Accessibility -> Speech -> System Voice. You can change the sound of a beep using System Preferences -> Sound ->  Sound Effects.
