8 Ball Pool is a game where you get to play some pool online, you can play against your friends, or you compete with other players around the world. The game was originally released back in 2010, and at the time you could play it in MiniClip, who until now manages the game. And two years after its original release, the game received a mobile version, which made the game become even more accessible, making it even more popular.

How It Started

When the game was first released on the MiniClip website, it was called 8 Ball Quickfire Pool, and your goal was to sink the maximum amount of balls you could before running out of time, and you would get extra time for every ball that you could sink. The idea was pretty straightforward, and the game was pretty fun and addictive.

MiniClip saw that the game was popular, and decided to invest in it. So they focused on making the game easier to understand, and they wanted to also make it more accessible. So after a few tweaks, after clicking the game, you would be presented with a huge play button, and after pressing it, you would directly be in a match against an opponent. So now the game was easier than ever to play, and you would go straight to playing pool. This change gave the game an extra boost of popularity, so the next step was to polish the game even more. They would then focus on working on the game's physics and try their best to make the game feel as real as possible to the real thing.

At the time, social media was beginning to gain more and more popularity, so why not try to put the game in some of them. The game was then put on Facebook, and to avoid getting awful reviews, they directly ported the game. When the Facebook version was released, it was a huge success, and MiniClip decided to take advantage of what Facebook had to offer. The Facebook version had a way for you to play against your friends, without them being online. So you could challenge your friends at any time, and the game would send them a notification. 8 Ball Pool continued to be extremely successful, inspiring the team behind it to continue investing in the game.

Having an extremely popular game is great, but it also comes with its challenges, as one wrong move can change everything. However, MiniClip was successful in adding the right updates each time and introducing a ranked system in the game made it even more popular, as now you could test your skills. A new currency was also introduced, and you would use it to join tournaments, and winning them would reward you with even more Pool Coins. The game had a new mechanic that would make the game even more addicting.

Now with the game being a huge success on computers, MiniClip wanted to expand their reach even further and decided to start working on a mobile version of the game. It was a risky decision, as a pool game requires extreme precision, and adapting that to a small screen would be a challenge. The team found themselves a real challenge, but after a couple of years, they were able to release something that was able to keep the simplicity of the game, while being able to retain precise controls.

Gameplay

Being a pool simulator, 8 Ball Pool offers its players a great experience of playing pool online. Every match that you win, you will earn Pool Coins that can be used to buy cues and other kinds of gear. A leveling system also exists in the game, so the more you play, the higher your level will be, and leveling up will reward you with cues and game rooms.

The rules of the game are exactly how the game is played in real life. You face off against your opponent, and see who can sink their balls first. The game is pretty straightforward, as your objective is simple. Play and win as many matches as you can. And if you want something more challenging, don't worry, as there is a ranked system in the game, so that you can play more competitively. There are ten leagues in the game, it goes from Brass League to  Diamond. You will receive different rewards depending on what league you are in, so if you want better rewards, be sure to aim for the top leagues.

It goes without saying that it is amazing that MiniClip was able to create a game that was released eleven years ago. It is hard for a game to stay relevant for such a long time, but it is extremely deserved, as 8 Ball Pool is still a fun and addicting game. This game is perfect for the current time we are living in, as many of us have to stay home, you can still play pool with your friends. You can play the game anywhere, and whenever you want, so having a game like that at your hand is amazing.
