Are you looking to sell your preowned tablet? For starters, you have to wipe it the right way to prevent anyone else from accessing your data. And do that, you need to deregister your accounts and perform a factory reset. It is important to sign out first because otherwise, your tablet will still be locked even after restoring the system. After that, run a restore to erase all the information downloaded previously.

This article will walk you through the process of resetting different types of tablets, iOS, Android, and the Amazon Kindle reader. It will also help you figure out how to sell tablets and other preowned tech stuff for cash.

Before You Begin

Create a backup for all your files, including photos, videos, documents, contacts, applications, programs, etc. If you haven't made a backup of your files for a while, we suggest doing it now, even before you find a buyer. Why? Because it is easy to forget to backup or start a reset in a rush, forgetting to sign out of your accounts and therefore bricking your tablet.

To create a backup of your files, we recommend using cloud storage or an external hard drive. Any file from this backup then can easily be moved to any other device you will be using in the future.

How to Factory Reset a Tablet

If you are looking to sell a tablet, it's crucial to wipe any information stored on it. And a factory reset does just that:

To Reset an Apple iPad

-Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Content and Settings.
-Wait for the pop-up window to appear and tap Erase.
-Enter your Apple ID and password.
-All the settings and data will be erased.
-After that, the iPad will reboot. From there on, it can either be set up as new or, if you decide to keep it, restored from the last backup.

Reset a Samsung Galaxy Tablet

-Power off your Galaxy and then press the Power and Volume Up buttons simultaneously.
-Release the buttons when you see the Recovery Screen.
-Navigate on-screen options using the volume control knob to get to the Wipe data/ Factory reset option.
-Use the Power button to select Factory data reset.
-Wait until the factory restore process is completed, and then select Reboot System Now.

Reset Other Android Tablet

-Open Settings and select System.
-Tap on Reset.
-Here, opt to Erase all data (Factory Reset).
-Select Reset Tablet at the very bottom.
-You'll be asked to confirm, so please select Erase Everything.
-After the reset is complete, your tablet will restart again, only this time it will be just like when you first purchased and ready for the new user to configure.

To Reset a Kindle eReader

-Go to Menu on the home screen and select Settings.
-Then, tap on Menu one more time and opt to Reset Device.

This is it--the Kindle tablet must be one of the easiest ones to reset.

Where to Sell Used Tablets and Other Gadgets

In an ever-changing modern society, reselling preowned items has become an easy thing to do. But technically, all these many options can be grouped into two: 1 - in-person sales and 2 - online trade-in.

While the first one requires a seller to hustle, a buyback platform basically takes care of everything.

Both options have their advantages and disadvantages. For example, selling your tablet via a buyback site like Gadget Salvation is not convenient, but you will likely get paid faster. Besides, all offers are instant and upfront, calculated based on the information the seller provides. And it works differently than traditional marketplaces. For example, selling on eBay requires time and effort because you need to have an account, then you have to list your tablet, pay for postage once it sells, etc.

But to sell your used tablet and other gizmos with Gadget Salvation, having an account is optional. Simply visit their website, look up your tablet brand and model online, and get an instant estimate. If the offer sounds reasonable, check out and print your prepaid shipping label. Then, send the tablet in for inspection. After the company receives and tests your gadget, which usually does not take longer than 48 business hours, they will send the money to your PayPal, Venmo, Zelle account. Or they can mail you a check if that is your preference.

And sure, selling the tablet yourself will probably get you a little bit more money. But it will also take a long time.

Bottom Line

Kudos on deciding to sell your unwanted tablet! Just be sure to back it up first, remove the device from your Samsung, Google account, or Apple ID, and then factory reset it. We detailed all these steps above in hopes of making this post a useful and informative source for all future resellers.
