Samsung Unveils Revolutionary 360-Degree Foldable Smartphone Display
Austin JayCES 2024 in Las Vegas was glimpsed by Samsung Display, a division of the Galaxy manufacturer that recently declared it will focus on what is happening "on-screen." One innovation that caught tech fans' attention was In&Out Flip. This flexible gadget features numerous 360-degree folds on both sides and dual touchscreen capabilities.
This design is for those who want to use bar-shaped smartphones instead of thick foldable ones.
The manufacturer ensured the device's robustness through rigorous testing, showcasing its resilience against temperatures ranging from minus 20 to 60 degrees Celsius and withstanding basketball bounces at their CES exhibit.
Additionally, Samsung displayed the Rollable Flex, a flexible screen that deforms to a size greater than five times its initial dimensions and was unveiled in May.
Their focus on "micro display" technology tailored for extended reality headsets, such as mixed reality and augmented reality devices from major tech players like Apple, Samsung, and Meta, remained prominent.
By fabricating directly upon silicon substrates, their demonstration of a novel high-resolution RGB organic light-emitting diode represented an innovative approach with the potential to significantly amplify pixel densities and luminous intensity through the applied usage of organic optoelectronic devices constructed upon silicon.
Samsung's latest display innovations, including a 31.5-inch ultra-high-definition OLED monitor as well as their debut of the first-ever 360 Hz OLED monitor, were both showcased at the event, exemplifying the company's relentless pursuit to pioneer progressively cutting-edge screen technologies through their tireless work.
Samsung's In&Out Flip aims for a sleeker design using a single display, potentially allowing more internal space and a larger battery. Durability tests, including extreme temperature folding, bouncing basketballs, sand rubbing, and water immersion, demonstrate Samsung's foldable screen resilience.
At CES, Samsung will reveal the Rollable Flex, expanding five times, and a Flex Hybrid blending foldable and slidable displays. However, smartphone vendors' specific adoption of the In&Out Flip remains uncertain. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 might be a contender, but Samsung's utilization of their phones remains unclear.
Notably, this design demands a novel hinge enabling 360-degree movement, a detail Samsung hasn't elaborated on.

Samsung's Galaxy S24 lineup prepares for a January 17 debut, marking a shift from grand show unveils and preceding the Mobile World Congress trend. The upcoming Unpacked event follows CES, historically revealing Samsung's new flagship models like last year's Galaxy S23 trio and Galaxy Book laptops.
Leaks suggest minimal design changes for the S24 series, with 6.2-, 6.7-, and 6.8-inch displays for the S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra, respectively. Cameras on the S24 and S24+ consist of a trio, while the Ultra features a 200-megapixel sensor and inherits Galaxy Note line features like square edges and S Pen functionality, offering a titanium version akin to the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Despite the anticipated Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, leaked European pricing hints at affordability. The event, set in the South Bay, starts at 10 a.m. PT and offers a $50 "reserve credit" on preorders until January 16 for those reserving the device without seeing it first.
