Samsung's Galaxy Note 2 phablet has been creating waves since its launch in October this year, and now the device has breezed past the 5 million sales milestone in just 60 days!
A few weeks ago, Samsung announced that its Galaxy Note 2, a follow-up to the Galaxy Note, had reached 3 million sales worldwide landmark in just 37 days. Now, with reports of the phablet crossing the 5 million sales figure trickling in, the Galaxy Note 2 seems to be on track to give Samsung's best-selling Galaxy S3 (which has sold 30 million units worldwide) some serious competition.
"Samsung Electronics introduced its own mobile phone technology and innovation put the smart mobile device 'Galaxy Note Ⅱ' global cumulative sales neomeoseomyeo 5,000,000 Notes Category seating has proved successful," reported Samsung Korea (translated).
The Galaxy Note 2 has managed to notch up these sales figures in just two months, two times faster than its predecessor. The Galaxy Note took five months to achieve the same.
According to a Global Times report, Samsung said that "the Galaxy Note 2 has been sold in various regions across the globe, including Asia, Europe, North America, Latin America and Africa. It was different from its predecessor Galaxy Note that was sold mainly in Seoul." This worldwide availability could well be a key factor in the device's success.
The Galaxy Note 2, like most follow-up devices, is an improvement on its predecessor and has a bumped up 5.5-inch HD Super AMOLED screen, which is currently the biggest display on any handset in the smartphone space. The device also features a powerful 1.6GHz quad-core processor, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, and an improved S Pen stylus.
Recently, Samsung launched a dual-SIM version of the Galaxy Note 2 for the Chinese market; however, it is unlikely that this variant will make its way to other countries.
Buoyed by the Galaxy Note 2's success, Samsung looks set to retain its smartphone market leader status and is on song to cross Samsung's CEO JK Shin's prediction of 20 million unit sales.
