The wait for Samsung Galaxy S3 users on AT&T seems to be over as customers can now get Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on their smartphone.
AT&T is the third major U.S. carrier who will get the Jelly Bean update after Sprint and T-Mobile. All eyes will be on Verizon as Galaxy S3 users on the network will be eagerly waiting for the Jelly Bean update soon.
"Unfortunately, there is no over-the-air option for now, and you will have to use Kies to get the update. Just install the latest version of Samsung's proprietary software, connect your Galaxy S III and check for updates. It should be there waiting for you," reported GSM Arena.
Kies is Samsung's proprietary software compatible with both Windows and Mac-based computers. Kies enables Samsung smartphone users to share multimedia files and update their devices, which is similar to how iTunes performs these functions for iOS handsets and tablets. The over-the-air (OTA) update may not be currently available but users will expect the OTA update soon.
The update from Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean will bring many new features to the Android-powered smartphone, including Android Beam.
The Android Beam feature lets a user share photos and videos by touching two Android devices back to back. This feature is identical to Samsung's S Beam feature.
Users will get a variety of features that makes it easier to navigate the user interface (UI), such as the addition of gesture-enabled controls and the ability to move more precisely between blocks of text in text messages. With the support for HTML5 video users get an improved web browsing experience.
The update also brings Project Butter, which gives a smoother user interface experience. The Jelly Bean update also brings Google Now to Android smartphones.
"Coming in at 738MB, the file to download and install is pretty big compared to other carriers. Aside from the expected new features and performance enhancement that Jelly Bean has to offer, we're not sure what kind of surprise AT&T has in store for Galaxy S3 owners," reported Android Authority.
