Rumors surrounding Samsung's Galaxy portfolio of smartphones seem to be gaining traction with each passing day. However, this time it's not the Galaxy S4 or Galaxy Note 3 which is stealing the limelight, but two yet-to-be-announced smartphones - the Galaxy S2 Plus and Galaxy Grand Duos - which have been spotted in China.
Both the Galaxy S2 Plus and Galaxy Grand Duos have been rumored previously and are anticipated to make an appearance soon. The Galaxy S2 Plus and Galaxy Grand Duos are codenamed "GT-I9105P" and "GT-I9082", respectively.
Per reports, Samsung could unveil the Galaxy S2 Plus by end December. The smartphone resembles the Galaxy S2 which was launched in H1 2011. Rumors suggest that the Galaxy S2 Plus will sport a 4.3-inch WVGA display (not qHD as reported earlier), a 1GHz (and not 1.4GHz) dual-core processor, 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, and a 2-megapixel front-facing snapper.
The Galaxy S2 Plus will allegedly weigh 4.27oz and measure 4.93 x 2.60 x 0.35 inches. It will run on Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean.
The Galaxy Grand Duos or GT-I9082 is expected to be a new high-end DUOS smartphone and was previously rumored to come in two colors - Metallic Blue and Elegant White - and will release in early 2013. The device, as the name suggests, will offer dual-SIM support and has passed authentication in China.
"Samsung GT-I9082" terminal manufactured by Samsung Electronics W-CDMA/GSM has passed the authentication of the China Industry and Information Technology, effective December 07, 2012," reported Japanese Web site Ameblo (translated).
The Galaxy Grand Duos was previously rumored to sport a 5-inch display and a quad-core processor. However, new reports point to a 4.5-inh WVGA screen (800 x 480) and 1.2GHz dual-core processor. The Galaxy Grand Duos will weigh 5.47oz and measure 5.63 x 3.03 x 0.38 inches.
Like the Galaxy S2 Plus, the Galaxy Grand Duos will also have an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing one and it will come pre-loaded with Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean.
Since the devices have been spotted in China, it is possible that Samsung may release the new smartphones in the region first. With the alleged release dates around the corner, we will have to see if the Samsung smartphones see the light of day or are confined to being just rumors.
