While Windows Phone may not be as popular as Android or iOS, it still boasts a few users. Rumors have been rife regarding Microsoft's impending new Windows Phone 7.8 update release for users whose handsets won’t be supporting Windows Phone 8 refresh, and now here’s some good news for the users.
Per reports, Samsung has stated that all its users who are using a Samsung-based Windows Phone 7.5 handset are set to get the new WP8 look-alike Windows Phone 7.8 refresh update.
This is a major news after it was rumored that the Samsung Omnia W (AKA Focus Flash) would go down the same road as that of the LG Optimus 7, which would not be getting the Windows Phone 7.8 update.
At the time, it was reported that despite being constantly updated to NoDo, Mango, and then Tango, the Optimus 7 would not receive its Windows Phone 7.8 refresh. However, Samsung has put an end to any such rumors by confirming that all Samsung handsets running the Windows Phone 7.5 will indeed get the 7.8 refresh.
“Contrary to the promise of an eventual Windows Phone 7.8 update to all Windows Phone 7.5 handsets the chart notes the Samsung Omnia W will not go beyond 7.10.8107.7,” a WMPoweruser report states.
The Samsung department which deals with all such queries have also stated: “We can confirm that our products carrying the Windows Phone version 7.5 , are updated the [version] 7.8 but will be made ??available with terms decided by Microsoft.”
Although the company has confirmed that will push out the 7.8 update for its users, exactly when that may happen is still shrouded in mystery. However, Pocketnow feels that something is odd here “to see the company specify that its phones currently running Mango or better would make the cut, when they’ve all already received such software.”
Windows Phone 7.8 brings several new features to the front, including a revamped home screen with live tiles with adaptable sizes. Moreover, the Bing wallpaper on the lockscreen is now available alongside themes arriving in a host of different colors, alongside pocket and child Lock screen Security.
