WYFF 4 has announced that its over-the-air broadcasts will now work on iPhones, iPads, and Wi-Fi-enabled iPods via a new accessory - the Elgato EyeTV Mobile.
The new Elgato EyeTV Mobile accessory enables users to watch live TV on their iDevices, on-the-go. According to the company, the compact TV tuner accessory connects easily and directly to the mobile device's dock connector port, allowing users to enjoy live TV without hassle.
EyeTV Mobile also features a miniature telescopic antenna for on-the-go usage, and an alternative rod antenna for enhanced reception while watching TV at home or at the office. To watch TV on an Apple mobile device, users simply need to click on the Elgato EyeTV app, which is available for download from the App Store. Once users open the app, a guide will appear and display the channels available in the viewing area. Tapping on the WYFF 4 channel will make the video picture full-screen.
EyeTV Mobile gets the TV programming from WYFF 4 over-the-air (OTA) signal. This means that it does not affect the user's data plan, as the WYFF 4 programming is delivered to the user free of charge.
"The addition of this accessory means people who already own Apple mobile products can now receive WYFF 4 programming - with full, uninterrupted, digital sound and image quality - on their existing device for free," said John R. Soapes, President and General Manager at WYFF 4.
WYFF 4's parent company, Hearst Television, is part of a venture called the DyleTM Mobile TV. The venture consists of U.S. broadcasters committed to accelerating the development of mobile digital television, and the new announcement marks a significant step forward towards those endeavors. DyleTM Mobile TV is currently available in 25 TV markets in the United States.
The EyeTV Mobile accessory works with the fourth-generation iPod Touch, iPad, iPad 2, third-generation iPad, iPhone 4, and iPhone 4S, and the app requires iOS 5.1 or newer to operate. The mobile accessory is also compatible with the newest iOS devices, including the iPhone 5, fifth-generation iPod Touch, fourth-generation iPad, and iPad Mini, but requires adapters to connect to these devices. The Elgato EyeTV Mobile is available on Amazon for $96.99.
"Just imagine how valuable a companion this device can be for people who truly want to remain connected to what's happening in the Upstate - indoors, outdoors, or on-the-go," Soapes added. "Moreover, it evolves your iPhone or iPad into an even more indispensable device, providing a vital conduit in times of emergency to the crucial, real-time local news and information for which leading local TV stations like WYFF 4 are known. All you need is your Apple device, the EyeTV Mobile accessory, and a charged battery."
