When we see leaks of unannounced devices, it almost never comes from a high level insider of the company. However, in Huawei's case, it is different.
Even though Huawei has a CES press event where it is expected to unveil a 6.1-inch phablet, Ascend Mate, it didn't stop the company's Chairman of Devices, Richard Yu, from showing off the device to fans at a Huawei retail store. While it might not have been the best decision to show off the device on video, it's refreshing to see Richard's enthusiasm and excitement concerning his company's upcoming phablet.
The Huawei Ascend Mate's 6.1-inch 1080p display makes other phablets like the Samsung Galaxy Note (5.3-inch), Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (5.5-inch display), HTC Droid DNA (5-inch), and LG Intuition (5-inch display) look tiny in comparison.
The rumored specs, excluding the massive 6.1-inch screen, are Android Jelly Bean, a 1.8GHz quad-core chip, 9.9mm case, and a 4,000mAH battery. Ascend Mate is expected to be priced at around $480.00.
There has been no word on the amount of internal storage, support for removable storage, and a release date. We should learn all of these and more when Huawei officially announces the device at its scheduled CES press event.
