Refurbishing is no easy task and it is extremely important to do it right, otherwise all hell can break loose - in this case, pornographic hell.
Because someone in a Colorado GameStop store was not very careful in refurbishing a Nintendo 3DS console, a five-year-old kid who got the gadget as a Christmas gift has now discovered the world of porn.
When 5-year-old Braydon Giles opened his Christmas gift, a Nintendo 3DS console, he discovered something he had not seen before: naked people engaged in the adult kind of entertaining activity. According to Channel 9 News, Braydon went to his brother Bryton, seeking his help to remove the weird photos from his new 3DS.
"He said that he didn't take these pictures so I went over to these pictures and I see two people in a bed. I told my dad and I said dad this has porn on it and he got up and went right to the phone," Bryton Giles told Channel 9 News.
As expected, Mark Giles, the father, was enraged that GameStop would sell him such a device for his kid. The company acknowledged the unfortunate incident, and reportedly told Giles that the images had been put there by a previous owner. To make amends, GameStop gave Braydon a brand new console and some games.
"GameStop is currently researching this situation. We have a rigorous quality control process in place to ensure that existing content is removed from all devices before they are re-sold," the company said in a statement. "Out of millions of transactions each year, ones like this happen very rarely. Our number one priority is to make things right for our customer."
Despite the new console, however, Mark Giles believes the damage is irreparable. His kid was exposed to pornographic images, and that cannot be taken back.
"You can't un-see this. He's five years old. Maybe when he's 18 or 20 maybe he won't know anything about it but he's not going to forget about it tomorrow," Giles told Channel 9 News.
It seems that all sorts of things can occur when stores take it upon themselves to refurbish such gadgets. Earlier this year, a BestBuy employee was accused of copying a woman's steamy photos and proposing she come by his house to get them on a CD. In another incident, a customer who left his phone at a BestBuy store for repair had the surprise of being outed as gay by a store employee. Clearly not the point, but the customer in question was not even gay.
In yet another recent incident involving a Nintendo 3DS console, a mom bought the gadget as a gift for her kid, but the box only contained rocks. Rocks for Christmas. That's it. In conclusion, be very careful with such purchases. They may be rare occurrences, but when it hits the fan, it hits it good.
