Bigger is better seems to be the new mantra of smartphone manufacturers. With several 5-inch 1080p handsets, including the Samsung Galaxy S4, tipped to make an appearance in 2013, word's on the street that ZTE has yet another 5-inch plus smartphone in the pipeline.
ZTE recently released its Nubia Z5, a 5-inch 1080p smartphone, and now, per reports, the company is believed to be working on a new phablet that is even bigger and has the model number "P945".
"ZTE recently introduced a five-inch, 1080p handset by way of sub-brand Nuba and its Z5, and now we've learned that the company has an even larger phablet in the works," reported Unwired View.
This handset will allegedly sport a 5.7-inch 720p display and will take on Samsung's Galaxy Note 2, which recently sold 1 million units in South Korea alone. Rumors also suggest that the "P945" will packs in a 1.2GHz quad-core processor under the hood which, on paper, however, pales in front of the Nubia Z5's Qualcomm quad-core processor that clocks 1.5GHz.
Other alleged specifications point to a frame that is thinner than 9mm, a 3000mAh battery, and Android 4.0 ICS OS or above. The 5.7-inch phablet is also speculated to feature an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 1-megapixel front-facing camera. In comparison, the Nubia Z5 has a 13-megapixel primary camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing snapper.
Judging by the specifications, the new ZTE phablet "P945" is definitely bigger than the Nubia Z5 offering from the company, but feature-wise it has a long way to go before it can match up to the recently-released Nubia Z5.
The P945 phablet from ZTE is expected to launch on carrier China Mobile before summer. Whether the device will be rolled out to international markets as well, and by when, is currently shrouded in mystery.
