Samsung ATIV Odyssey, which leaked back in November, is finally coming to U.S. on Verizon Wireless.
Showcased at the International CES, the ATIV Odyssey is a Verizon exclusive handset that will come with support for carrier's 4G LTE network. Samsung has not disclosed the price and release date yet.
The ATIV Odyssey is an entry-level Windows Phone built with the same form factor as other Samsung phones. It sports a 4-inch Super AMOLED display with 480 X 800 pixels resolution. The phone runs on Qualcomm's dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, clocked at 1.5GHz. The device has 1GB of RAM and 8GB of on-board storage, which is not enough in terms of storage. Fortunately, with microSD card slot, users can add up to 64GB of external memory to the handset.
At the rear, the ATIV Odyssey sports a 5-megapixel camera that is capable of shooting full HD 1080p videos. The front-facing camera in the device is 1.2 megapixels. The Samsung-made smartphone also packs in a removable 2,100 mAh battery.
On the software side, the ATIV Odyssey runs Widows Phone 8 and comes with a suite of exclusive apps such as Mini Diary to log daily activities, a simple Photo Editor, and the Now app that displays latest news, stock prices, and weather updates instantly.
The ATIV Odyssey may not have specifications as powerful as the Galaxy S3, but being a Windows Phone, it does not necessarily need to be tightly packed. Most of the Windows Phones have similar specifications, which maintain consistency among Windows Phones that is lacking in other platforms.
The smartphone is neat, but it lacks some hardware add-ons such as NFC and wireless charging. It looks like that the success of Samsung ATIV Odyssey depends on the selling price and to make it a hit, Verizon needs to price the phone competitively.
Samsung ATIV Odyssey is expected to land on Verizon shelves in the coming weeks.
