CES for Samsung is all about next-generation HDTVs and a little about smartphones and tablets. However, this time, Samsung announced an LTE friendly version of its Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet, exclusively for Verizon Wireless.
Verizon is keeping mum about the price and release date of the Galaxy Note 10.1, but Samsung announced at the International CES that the tablet will hit the U.S. market later this month.
The LTE version of Galaxy Note 10.1 has the same specifications as the Wi-Fi version of the tablet, except additions to the software end. The tablet will ship with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean on-board, while the original Galaxy Note 10.1 presently runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Additionally, the Multi-View mode feature isn't available on the original Note 10.1, which is added to Verizon's model.
The Multi-View feature unlocks a new level of multi-tasking, enabling complete resizing and dragging of multiple windows of apps. It allows users to run two apps simultaneously on the screen. Imagine watching a music video on YouTube, while replying to a message at the same time.
Being a member of Samsung's Note line-up, the Galaxy Note 10.1 adds creative power to the screen. With S-Pen Stylus support, the Korean tech giant aims to offer a new level of creativity to the digital experience. Verizon's version of Galaxy Note 10.1 also includes new photo editing tools.
Specifications-wise, the Galaxy Note 10.1 is a top of the line Android tablet. It runs on a quad-core 1.4GHz processor. The device has 2GB of RAM and comes in 16GB/32GB/64GB of storage options. It also offers microSD card support (expandable up to 64GB).
The Galaxy Note 10.1 has full support for voice communication and other telephony features. Connectivity features include Wi-Fi with hotspot functionality, Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0, GPRS & EDGE support, and GPS.
Samsung Galaxy 10.1 has 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, with LED flash support and capable of shooting HD 720p videos and a 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera.
The U.S. release of an LTE variant of the Galaxy Note 10.1 is expected since Samsung released an LTE version of the S-Pen equipped tablet in Korea in Nov. 2012.
The LTE variant of the Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet is slated to launch January end on Verizon.
