Lenovo is making plans to jump into the realm of becoming a Windows Phone 8 OEM. Judging by the emerging reports, the device could come to the market before the end of 2013.
According to JD Howard, vice president of business operations and worldwide business development at Lenovo's Mobile Internet and Digital Home, the company will go anywhere the market leads it to. If Windows Phone proves to be a viable option that consumers gravitate towards, then Lenovo will no doubt release a phone based on Microsoft's mobile operating system soon enough.
At the moment, Lenovo is riding the Android success train and unveiled five smartphones based on the platform at CES 2013. However, per reports, Howard stated that if consumers are concerned over Android security problems or that Lenovo phones are made in China, Windows Phone 8 security features should alleviate many fears.
"Howard said should consumers be concerned over any possible security vulnerabilities in Android OS, or that the phones are made in China, the security features in Windows Phone 8 should help mitigate many of their fears," noted the ZDNet report.
Per the report, the Mobile Internet and Digital Home (MDH) division at Lenovo has put in a proposal for the company to step into the Windows Phone ecosystem, and things should begin to move forward by April.
If Lenovo should enter the Windows Phone market, the company could give Nokia some well needed competition, keeping the company on its toes. Such a move by Lenovo can only mean good things for consumers; however, since the company is Chinese, the first set of devices could be released in the region before anywhere else.
With Nokia taking China by storm with its Lumia 920 and Lumia 620, Lenovo focusing on China for the first couple of months wouldn't be a bad idea.
