The CES 2013 extravaganza wrapped up on Jan. 11, bringing in its fold a plethora of technological innovations and devices that are looking to redefine and revolutionize the consumer market.
We take a look at the top 10 products of CES 2013 that packed a punch and succeeded in grabbing the eyeballs!
1. Panasonic 20-inch 4K Tablet
One of the surprise release at this year's CES was the massive 20-inch 4K tablet from Panasonic. The 20-inch Windows 8-powered touchscreen tablet with its 3,840 x 2,560 pixels resolution (230ppi) is primarily meant for business users, architects, engineers etc. Panasonic, however, is yet to christen the tablet and announce the release date and pricing.
2. Samsung OLED TV with Multi-View Feature (KN55F9500)
Samsung launched its new OLED TVs at the event, including the 55-inch KN55F9500. This OLED TV offering from Samsung touts high picture quality and packs in voice control and streaming media. It also has the distinction of being the first to feature Samsung's revolutionary Multi-View feature, which employs 3D display technology to show two viewers different content simultaneously.
3. Sensus Touch Sensitive Case by Canopy
Canopy took the wraps off Sensus, a radical protective case which will add touch capabilities to the sides and rear of your iPhone. The Sensus case adds a ten-finger touch response for the entire surface of the phone, barring the bottom, and will cost $69 when it releases in the summer for both iPhone 4 and iPhone 5.
4. Liquipel
Liquipel introduced a novel way to waterproof your smartphones and tablets, protecting them from damage via water or any other liquid. The Liquipel Nano-Coating, which costs $59.99 onwards, "permeates the entire device and bonds to it on a molecular level," making the device watersafe for years.
5. LG Curved OLED 3D TV
LG showed off its 55-inch OLED 3D TVs with curved screens and Full HD resolution at the CES 2013. LG's new EA9800, the company claims is "the world's first curved OLED TV."
"LG is the first to launch the 55-inch OLED TV," Havis Kwon, President and CEO of LG's Home Entertainment Company, said in a blog post. "We believe our new OLED TVs offer the ultimate viewing experience, surpassing anything seen before."
6. Ubuntu OS-based Touchscreen Phone
Canonical unveiled Ubuntu, the popular desktop operating system, for touchscreen-based phones, introducing a UI experience which employs all four edges of the screen "to deliver a more immersive experience."
7. NVIDIA Project Shield
NVIDIA showed off a prototype of its handheld console - Project Shield - at the CES 2013. The console has a 5-inch multi-touch display and a Tegra 4 processor, and will look to compete with Nintendo 3DS and Sony PlayStation Vita post release.
8. Sharp IGZO Panel
Sharp showcased its IGZO display technology which, according to rumors, will be on future iPhones. IGZO is an innovative compound that replaces the standard silicon material used as the active layer for TFTs. The company showed off 32-inch 4K-resolution low-power IGZO LCD panels at the tech fest and touts that it is the first to successfully mass produce IGZO.
9. Huawei Ascend Mate (World's Largest Smartphone)
China-based Huawei took to the CES 2013 platform to announce the biggest smartphone in the world - the 6.1-inch Ascend Mate. The colossal Ascend Mate phablet has a 1280x 720 pixels resolution and is powered by a 1.5 GHz quad-core Hi-Silicon K3V2 processor. The Ascend Mate weighs 6.98 ounces and is 0.40-inch thick. It also features an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, a 1-megapixel front-facing camera, and packs in a 4050mAh battery.
10. Samsung Transparent Advertising Display
Samsung's transparent advertising display was the perfect promo accessory that caught the attention of all the onlookers. The concept is pretty simple - the product sits inside a lightbox that has glass sides and an illuminated back and bottom panel, whereas the front is the actual display. This can be loaded with promo videos, specs, pricing etc and the full PC control enables one to create interactive displays.
