Sony recently released its Xperia Z flagship smartphone and now leaks suggest that the Xperia Tablet Z ,which features a 10.1-inch display, will soon make an appearance.
Rumors suggest that Xperia Tablet Z will be showcased at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in February this year.
The news regarding the Xperia Tablet Z comes via a tweet from Xperia Info, and while the tweet is in Japanese, the specs of the tablet are easily understandable.
Sony's Xperia Tablet Z will allegedly sport a 10.1-inch HD display with 1920 x 1200 pixels resolution. A 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor is expected to power the tablet. The device is speculated to have 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of on-board storage. Whether the tablet will support expandable memory is not currently known.
The Xperia Tablet Z is expected to run on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box and will allegedly be equipped with an 8-megapixel rear-facing snapper and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. A 6000mAh battery is expected to fuel the device. The tablet is likely to offer Bluetooth, NFC (Near Field Communication), and Wi-Fi support.
All the hardware will be packed in a 6.9mm (0.27-inch) thick chassis, which is comparatively thinner than the iPad mini (7.2mm or 0.28-inch thick) and the iPad (9.4mm or 0.37-inch thick).
It will be interesting to see if Sony extends the dust and water proof features of the Xperia Z smartphone to the Xperia Tablet Z, or chooses to take the IR route like it did with the Xperia ZL.
The Xperia Tablet Z seems pretty impressive on paper. However, with the competition increasing day-by-day in the consumer market, the device's price may well play an important role in determining its success.
