LG has huge plans for 2013 and probably the biggest is the plan it its goal of selling 75 million handsets this year. It's betting on selling 45 million smartphones and 30 million feature phones.
LG has fallen from grace in the mobile phone world; it now sees itself in third place when it comes to smartphone sales behind Apple, and leader Samsung. LG is also betting on trying to increase sales by using Windows Phone 8 OS in some of its smartphones this year.
Google chose to exclusivley partner with LG to build its Nexus 4 smartphone it launched in October. The device appears to be a hit, but LG recently faced criticism for supply chain issues regarding the Nexus 4. Google's United Kindom and Ireland Managing Director, Dan Colbey recently apologized for the delays customers are experiencing when ordering the Nexus 4 and claimed the reason for the delay was "scare and erratic supplies" and that communication between Google and LG had been flawed. LG has publicly come out and insists none of those reason are true and Nexus 4 production has been running "without a hitch." Someone is not telling the whole truth here.
According to a report, LG sees 2013 going like this:
"LG also mentioned it plans on making this number by getting into the Windows Phone 8 game. "We will release quite a number of new Optimus devices this year, and LG also has some new smartphones in the works that will run Microsoft's Windows Phone 8," a senior executive from one of LG's partners told The Korea Times. The executive added this year "won't be as bullish for LG as last year" and that the Nexus 4 and Optimus G have helped the company make great strides in impressing major carriers. The devices also show consumers that LG is capable of producing high quality, fast performing mobile devices. The budget line of Optimus smartphones has also received plenty of attention. "We are confident to get our phone business on a rising track this year," said the executive."
For LG's sake, hope 2013 brings good tidings to the company that once ran neck-to-neck with Samsung.
