Nokia fans who have been eagerly awaiting the Windows Phone 7.8 update are in for some good news. Per reports, the update is set to roll out a day earlier on Jan. 30 (instead of Jan. 31) and AT&T's Nokia Lumia 900 will be the first smartphone to get the software upgrade.
The new is courtesy tech site WPCentral who managed to lay their hands on an internal AT&T e-mail, which divulged the details.
"Nokia Lumia 900 users on AT&T can look forward to receiving the Windows Phone 7.8 OS update on Wednesday, January 30th-one day earlier than what we were anticipating. Windows Phone Central has learned (via an internal AT&T email) details of the update including that it was approved on January 7th by the carrier," reported the site.
The update will be pushed out on Wednesday, Jan. 30 and will be available for download through a PC running Zune software. The changelog indicates that the file size is 100MB in size, so users won't take that long to download and install the update.
The Windows 7.8 update will bring several new features users' way, including a revamped home screen for the Lumia 900 that resembles the one on WP8 handsets. Additionally, users will also have access to an array of new theme colors. Users will also be able to set a Bing image of the as the lock screen wallpaper. The update also brings API and Marketplace enhancements.
Nokia users will welcome the enhancements and fixes which Windows 7.8 will bring their way. Currently, it is not known which other AT&T devices, apart from the Lumia 900, will be getting the update and when.
