Google Nexus 4 has been one of the most popular smartphones since its launch in November last year. However, BlackBerry is attempting to draw away the attention by recently launching its Z10 all-touch smartphone. The million dollar question is - does BlackBerry Z10 have what it takes to blow Nexus 4 out of water?
We take a look at how the BlackBerry Z10 fares against the Nexus 4.
Processor
A powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core Krait processor clocked at 1.5GHz powers the Nexus 4. On the other hand, a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core Krait processor clocked at 1.5GHz powers the BlackBerry Z10. The Nexus 4 is clearly more powerful of the two as it has a quad-core processor vis-a-vis BB Z10's dual-core one.
Display
The Nexus 4 sports a 4.7-inch IPS LCD display with 1280 x 768 pixels resolution and 320ppi. On the other hand, the BlackBerry Z10 has a 4.2-inch LCD display with the same resolution as of the Nexus 4. However, the smaller 4.2-inch display of the BlackBerry Z10 is packed with a higher pixel density of 356ppi. BlackBerry Z10 packs more pixels per inch but Nexus 4 has a bigger display, so it's a draw here.
Storage And RAM
The Nexus 4 is available in 8/16GB internal storage option. The handset is not capable of expanding the storage using a microSD card. The BlackBerry Z10 is a winner in this category as the smartphone is available with 16GB on-board storage with the option to expand using a microSD card.
Both smartphones have 2GB of RAM.
Camera
Both the Nexus 4 and the BlackBerry Z10 are equipped with an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera. However, the BlackBerry Z10 has a better 2-megapixel front-facing camera when compared to the 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera of the Nexus 4.
Battery And Operating System
The Nexus 4 has a bigger battery of 2,100 mAh when compared to the 1,800 mAh battery of the BlackBerry Z10.
The BlackBerry Z10 runs on the company's latest BlackBerry 10 operating system, while the Nexus 4 runs on Google's latest Android 4.2 Jelly Bean platform.
Dimensions And Weight
The Nexus 4 measures 5.27 x 2.70 x 0.36 inches and the BlackBerry Z10 measures 5.12 x 2.58 x 0.35 inches making the latter device smaller and thinner than the former. At 4.90 ounces, the Nexus 4 is also slightly heavier than the BlackBerry Z10, which weighs 4.85 ounces.
Colors, Availability, And Price
The Nexus 4 is available directly from Google Play Store at $199 (8GB) and $299 (16GB). The Nexus 4 is also available via regional carriers at different price points. On the other hand, the BlackBerry Z10 will be available from March this year in the U.S. The smartphone will be available from major U.S. carriers who will reveal the price of the handset soon.
The BlackBerry Z10 is available in black or white variants, whereas the Nexus 4 comes only in black. However, leaked images of the white version have surfaced online, indicating that the Nexus 4 may soon don a new avatar.
The BlackBerry Z10 packs in impressive features but it has a slower processor and a smaller display than Nexus 4. Z10's biggest weakness is the BlackBerry 10 OS, which is BlackBerry's latest and best mobile OS to date, but it isn't enough to steal away Android fans from Nexus 4.
In conclusion, BlackBerry fans will want to try out the new Z10 but it's doubtful whether Z10 has enough oomph to make Android fans jump ship.
