After recent reports of Vodafone UK asking its iPhone and iPad users not to upgrade to iOS 6.1, the software upgrade issues are forcing other carriers and enterprise experts to caution owners from upgrading too quickly.
In Austria, the 3 network has warned its users not to upgrade their iPhone 4S to iOS 6.1. "Dear 3 customer! The update of the iPhone 4S on iOS 6.1 can currently cause connectivity problems. We responded quickly and are working with Apple on a solution to the problem. For this reason, we recommend not to install the update for the time being. We will inform you immediately if there is a solution. Your 3 ServiceTeam," The Guardian translated the original warning send out by the company.
Meanwhile, Apple's iOS 6.1 update is reportedly causing excessive logging on Exchange servers, the ZD Net reports. The update is causing iPhones and iPads to overloads 2007 and 2010 Exchange Servers by constantly logging in to the server. The issues have been reported and confirmed by many sources including Microsoft Technet and Windows IT Pro's Tony Redmond.
Technet reported that Network administers are identifying sudden spikes in server logging and one admin has reportedly seen more than 50GB of logs triggered by a single iPad running 6.1.
Corporate users are advised not to upgrade to the latest iOS update until the problem is fixed. "IT administrators have no control over when their BYOD users upgrade, so many of them have resorted to blocking iOS 6.1 from accessing Exchange as a temporary mitigation to prevent server outages for everybody else," the report said.
Vodafone UK had cautioned its users that they may face difficulty in connecting to the network to make or receive calls or texts or to connect to the Internet if upgraded to iOS 6.1. The official statement from the company said the connection problems are intermittent and that Apple is working on a fix for this software issue. Although the bug that affects the 3G performance has officially been confirmed in UK, users in different parts of the world including U.S. Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, and India are reporting the issue on Apple's support forum.
