The latest AdDuplex Windows Phone market share report is in, and the findings it contains are not in any way surprising. The data has been taken from 294 Windows Phone apps, and they all say the same thing: Nokia is in full control with 78 percent share of the market.
Since Nokia came on the Windows Phone scene in late 2012 with the Lumia 800, the company has been slowly creeping its way to the top, and in no time, it became the number one Windows Phone device manufacturer. Fast forward to 2013 and we have Nokia still controlling the Windows Phone market, but this time with 78.13 percent share.
Behind Nokia sits HTC with 13.67 percent, and Samsung with 6.23 percent. These numbers show how much Nokia is dominating the market, which is quite similar to how the company dominated the Symbian market while leaving the scraps for everyone else. No doubt this is good for Nokia, but it might not be the same for Windows Phone, as Nokia alone is not capable of growing the platform.
On the matter of the top Windows Phone device, Nokia commands the top 6 spot with the Lumia 800, Lumia 710, Lumia 610, Lumia 920, Lumia 900 and the Lumia 820. HTC only has a small presence on this list, while other OEMs are so far down they don't require mentioning.
At the moment, the world is dominated by Windows Phone 7 devices, but Windows Phone 8 handsets are slowly creeping up with the help of Nokia and HTC. Samsung, the company that once held a good amount of market share in the Windows Phone space, is barely recognizable at this point. Samsung is more focused on Android, where it is finding great success, along with being market leader in that space.
So what's next for Nokia? The company plans new Lumia devices for 2013, one of which will bring to the table the first true PureView camera experience, along with an all-new design that differs quite a lot from the Lumia 920.
