Users of Samsung Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 on Sprint are in for a treat.
Per reports, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 from Sprint are currently receiving a bundle of brand new software updates, and although minor, these, nonetheless are important updates for the devices from the carrier.
Firstly, all those who are expecting a new flavor of Android Jelly Bean along with the update, they should know that it's not happening, as these are some minor updates aimed at improving the devices altogether.
Owners of the Galaxy S3 will be looking forward to the L710VPMA6 update from Sprint, which will be bringing support for three-digit SMS, an improved Voicemail application, and a much needed fix for the Calendar sync issues.
Sprint states that this update is a two step process, which involves a download of the update to the phone, followed by the installation of the update to the user's phone. During the installation step, the phone will be unable to make or receive calls. While download and installation time over 4G or Wi-Fi will take around 10 minutes, the same on 3G will take a bit more (20 minutes).
The last time the Galaxy S3 received an update from Sprint, it was back in October last year when the carrier was pushing out the Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean refresh, LTE selection improvements, and some Exchange interaction improvements.
The Galaxy Note 2, on the other hand, will be receiving the L900VPAMA7 update, which aims to improve the security of the phone, and is likely a fix for the previous Exynos exploit. Sprint says that during the upgrade process, "the device may reboot multiple times and show software upgrade screens. Do not remove the battery as this will stop the update and your device may be rendered inoperable! Do not attempt to use the device until the 'Congratulations' screen appears."
The last such update for the Note 2 was released back in July last year when Sprint introduced a number of fixes where text message notification would beep while in a voice call, GPS lock settings could be defaulted by corporate device administrators, the option where emails would go to Outbox when in no coverage area or airplane mode, and the Multi Window View feature that would run two apps on the screen at the same time.
The updates are being pushed out in phases, so the user may or may not see the update notification right away.
