Google has finally decided to put a stop to any kind rumors related to a Google retail store before it further grows into something bigger.
Per reports, Google has confirmed that the company is not planning on introducing physical retail stores for its products, similar to Apple, any time soon in the future.
Although no planned, the idea of a Google retail store would sound pretty good to a host of Google fans, especially when there would be a probability for the public to get easier-than-ever access to Nexus devices, and also serving as a place to check out Google Glass in person once it finally hits the shelves and becomes widely available. However, that is not happening as of now.
The possibility of a retail store came into contention even more after The Wall Street Journal confirmed this month that Google is actually looking forward to open a retail store that would offer consumers a chance to test out its latest Chromebook computers and Nexus line of smartphones and tablets.
It was also stated that the company would also use these stores to make consumers aware about the benefits of Google TV and show off its upcoming Google Glass headset that’s capable of projecting images directly onto users’ eyes.
However, with the new report, all previous information can now be laid to rest.
“Google has no plans and we have nothing to announce,” Android chief Andy Rubin confirmed. “They don’t have to go in the store and feel it anymore.”
As far as the availability of the Google-based Nexus smartphones are concerned, Rubin stated: “For Nexus, I don’t think the program is far enough along to think about the necessity of having these things in a retail store.”
“While Google has already experimented with exclusive zones within existing retail stores, it reportedly is interested in getting some larger spaces to itself,” Pocketnow wrote earlier. “The stimulus for this decision may be the forthcoming arrival of Project Glass, a product so unlike anything we’re used to that sales could heavily depend on the ability for the shopping public to try it out in person first.”
Google, going by the rumors, was expected to open stores ahead of this year’s holiday season, although the WSJ’s sources couldn’t confirm a specific timeline. The company was also expected to introduce these stores in several major metropolitan areas across the United States.
