The first iPad Mini tablet device didn't come with a high resolution Retina display, and this was deemed a disappointment to many consumers. However, if rumors are to be taken seriously, the next generation iPad Mini could fix that problem.
A new report from the Chinese website CNYes claims Apple is working on its next generation iPad Mini, and that we may not see until the third quarter of 2013. Having a high resolution display should boost the iPad Mini's sale tremendously, and allow it to compete better with other tablets with Android and Windows 8 inside.
However, despite not having a Retina display, the current iPad Mini model is still performing relatively well at retail stores. Demand is still high, as Apple is preparing to ship 55 million units in 2013 alone, according to CNYes — quite impressive given that Apple shipped 13 million units in the fourth quarter of 2012.
Smaller tablets are likely to become even more popular, so Apple might have caught wind of this and chose pull out all the stops with the next version of the iPad Mini.
The first iPad Mini hit retail shelves back in 2012. It was a runaway success as the device even managed to achieve more units sold compared to the fourth-generation Apple iPad. This was a bit surprising, and may even be just as surprising to Apple, since Steve Jobs himself once stated that 7-inch tablets had no future in the market.
All that's left for Apple to do right now is bring a significant update to iOS. The user interface and the whole operating system in general is five years old, it's boring and needs to keep up with the competition in functionality and ease of use.
