The previously leaked and much-rumored Lenovo S920 Android smartphone now becomes official, as it is already up for pre-order in China.
The device itself looks quite impressive, packing a quad-core processor, sporting a massive 5.3-inch display and running on Android Jelly Bean.
The company already made the Lenovo S920 available through its Chinese website, but the handset is not shipping yet.
Technical Specifications
In terms of technical specs, the Lenovo S920 sports the latest Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, a 5.3-inch display with a 1280 x 720 resolution, a quad-core MediaTek processor clocked at 1.2GHz under the hood, and 1GB of RAM. The smartphone has only 16GB of internal storage but comes with micro SD support for additional memory. Other features include an eight-megapixel rear-facing camera, a two-megapixel front camera and a 2,250mAh battery.
The Lenovo S920 is set to hit the market in early April as the first Lenovo device to run on the Android Jelly Bean mobile operating system. Based on its specs, the Lenovo S920 will likely compete with the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, but it will likely come with a lower price tag because it uses a MediaTek processor.
On the other hand, while the Lenovo S920 is one of the thinnest smartphones, its 2,250mAh battery may not be powerful enough to provide sufficient hours of runtime. Lenovo did not announce yet whether it will release the S920 smartphone in the global market. For now, the handset goes up for pre-order in China with an Apr. 8 release date and a $350 price tag.
The tech world may be buzzing about the new Samsung Galaxy S4 and the rumored iPhone 5S, but cheaper smartphones running on the latest version of Android software are gaining increasing traction. While these cheaper alternatives have nothing on the real smartphone powerhouses, a quad-core processor and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean may be enough to generate quite some sales. Just look at the Google Nexus 4 smartphone made by LG, which is barely ever in-stock. The Nexus 4 has been flying off the shelves in no time since its launch, and its whopping demand is due to its affordable price tag and higher-end specifications. The bigger display of the Lenovo S920 might also appeal to phablet lovers.
