The AT&T LG Optimus G Pro recently passed through the FCC, and now it seems the handset may hit AT&T shelves sometime next month.
LG made the wildly popular Google Nexus 4 handset, but it wants a piece of that juicy smartphone market with a handset all of its own, and that device is the LG Optimus G Pro.
The LG Optimus G Pro's arrival on U.S. mobile carrier AT&T sparked lots of rumors and speculation, and the recent round pegs May 10 as a potential release date. After making an appearance at the FCC, it is only a matter of time until the AT&T version of the LG Optimus G Pro hits store shelves.
News that AT&T will launch the LG Optimus G Pro on May 10 comes from Android Central, which cites a "source familiar with launch plans for the device." According to the publication, the U.S. model of the handset will sport a 5.5-inch display just like the Korean version, not the 5.0-inch Japanese variant.
Android Central reckons that the May 10 release date is unannounced; therefore the actual release may come a day or two before or after this date. The source apparently could not confirm whether the LG Optimus G Pro would arrive on any of the other U.S. carriers. For now, it seems that AT&T is the only one to carry the handset.
The LG Optimus G Pro "phablet" sports a massive 5.5-inch Full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor clocked at 1.7GHz. The LTE device also packs a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with LED flash and a 2-megapixel front shooter. A powerful 3,140mAh battery keeps the show running and the handset also features wireless charging.
If this rumor turns out to be true and the LG Optimus G Pro hits AT&T on or around May 10, it would pit LG's latest flagship against the new Samsung Galaxy S4, which sports similar specs and should arrive in the U.S. around the same time. On the other hand, the LG Optimus G Pro may stand a better chance at competing with other devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. Considering the specs LG packed on its device, the Optimus G Pro might mark the first real competition the Galaxy Note line encounters.
