Verizon is finally starting the initial rollout of the long-awaited Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for the Motorola Droid Bionic on Monday, April 15.
The Jelly Bean update for the Verizon Motorola Droid Bionic is long overdue, but it's finally happening. The firmware update will bring the software build to version 98.72.22.XT875 and the Android software to version 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.
Verizon Motorola Droid Bionic will finally get a taste of the usual Jelly Bean goodies, including Google Now, Project Butter, and a smoother user interface (UI). Moreover, Verizon and Motorola are also throwing in Visual Voicemail, as well as an enhanced mobile hotspot capability.
Signs of an imminent firmware upgrade started emerging last week, when some customers received intriguing invites for soak tests. It appears everything went just fine, as Verizon now officially announced the update is ready and on its way.
As usual with such software updates, the rollout of this build will reach users in stages. It will start on April 15, but it may take a few days to reach all Motorola Droid Bionic devices. Those who don't receive the update notification on Monday just need a little more patience - it's on its way.
Once the update kicks in, Motorola Droid Bionic users will be able to enjoy some real benefits, as the software upgrade to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean brings some major goodies. Aside from Project Butter and Google Now, the update will also bring enhanced notifications and keyboard, better voice search, several fixes, and much more. For detailed instructions on the software upgrade, as well as a list of benefits this update brings, check out the Motorola Droid Bionic support page.
The update will not only bring Android Jelly Bean benefits, but also improved voice and data connectivity from Motorola. Note, however, that the update is quite sizeable (98.72MB), so make sure the handset's battery is fully charged and you have a strong Wi-Fi connection or Verizon signal before downloading and installing the package. The update will roll out in phases starting Monday, so let us know if you're among the lucky Motorola Droid Bionic users to get it first.
