The Lumia 720 is one of Nokia's latest attempts at getting devices running Windows Phone 8 into the hands of more consumers who are unable to afford the flagship Lumia 920. The device is extremely capable, and proves itself to be a contender for best camera phone of the year.
The guys at Recombu managed to get their hands on a Lumia 720, and in no time they put the device to the test against the Lumia 920, Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and Sony Xperia Z. In the final showdown, the Lumia 920 came out on top as expected; however the Lumia 720 managed to perform a lot better in low-light conditions compared to the two non-Lumia handsets:
"Worst of the bunch is the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, with its off white balance and massive amounts of grain. Despite getting better colour accuracy, detail on the Sony Xperia Z is sorely lacking and focus is pretty off-point. Then you have the Lumia 720. In-spite of a lack of optical image stabilisation, it's still delivered an in-focus shot complete with accurate white balance and impressive exposure. It isn't perfect, don't get us wrong, but it's significantly better than the two competitor brand flagships, both costing a whole lot more."
"Finally, unsurpassed, unsurprisingly, the Nokia Lumia 920 sits at the top of the low-light leader board. Focus is bang-on as is white balance and detail; it's all there."
"Having seen the room through our own eyes - the Lumia 920 brightens up the scene a touch too much. It definitely looks the best, but the 720, with its slightly lower exposure even beats the crowned king on the ambience stakes."
This is a bit surprising due to how expensive and advanced in specifications the Galaxy Note 2 and Xperia Z are compared to the Lumia 720. It goes without saying, if you're looking for the perfect Windows Phone handset at the right price with a few high-end features, the Lumia 720 is what you'll need.
