The camera application in Windows Phone 8 is very lackluster compared to Android and iOS. With Microsoft failing to implement much-needed features via updates, Nokia has taken this challenge into its own hands.
According to MyNokiaBlog, the new feature, dubbed the Nokia Camera Lens, will only be available to Lumia owners, which puts Windows Phone 8 device owners between a rock and a hard place. The new camera feature promises to bring to the table the ability for users to change shutter speed, manual white balance and other advanced options seen in Android handsets.
Such features should have been a part of the Windows Phone platform since the beginning, and Microsoft should not have allowed Nokia to do the job Microsoft should have done. Now we are about to have some Windows Phone 8 device owners with advanced camera features, while others will have to stick it out with the old camera features because they don't own a Lumia.
The new Camera Lens feature is expected to make its way to Lumia devices via Nokia's PR 2.0 update. The update is not all about beefing up Windows Phone 8 camera features; it will include such features as "tap to wake" and a "sleeping screen." These features are similar to what is available in the Nokia N9, which proves Nokia might be planning to bring many key N9 features to its Lumia line of Windows Phone 8 devices.
With the update set for release in July of 2013, users who are jumping with joy might want to keep things under control for awhile longer and play the ever-popular waiting game.
Now, all that Nokia needs to do is add the N9's face=detection feature, edge swipes, a Swype like keyboard, manual focus that is similar to ProShot and a host of other exciting features.
