Sony focused most of its efforts on its new Xperia Z smartphone, but the company is also working to push Jelly Bean to its other devices.
The new Sony Xperia Z is quite impressive and got most of the attention as the new flagship powerhouse, but Sony is still making time to take care of its older handsets. An Android Jelly Bean update was in the cards for Xperia devices for a good while, and Sony now revealed that some of those older Xperia devices are in the final testing phase for the new firmware. In other words, more Xperia devices should get a taste of Jelly Bean soon enough.
Recently some reports indicated that the Sony Xperia S and Xperia P may be close to receiving the Android Jelly Bean update, but now Sony announced on Twitter that a number of devices are in fact entering the final testing changes for the firmware upgrade.
According to the company's tweet, the Sony Xperia S, Xperia SL, Xperia P, Xperia Ion, Xperia Arco S and Xperia Go are the devices currently in the final testing stages for Jelly Bean. The company does not mention when exactly the update will become available, but promises to provide more details on the new firmware upgrade next week.
While Sony Xperia users were eagerly awaiting some less vague news on the availability of the upgrade, it's still reassuring to see the company is trying to keep its customers informed about future upgrades. Android Jelly Bean will be a major leap, adding a number of cool tweaks and features to the handsets. Google Now and Project Butter are among the main attractions of Jelly Bean, but the upgrade will bring many more goodies and will make the whole experience faster and smoother.
If the company makes good on its promise, owners of the aforementioned Sony Xperia devices should get more news about the upgrade next week. As it already announced the devices that are eligible for the boost, all that's left for Sony is to announce some firm release dates for the upgrade and, of course, actually roll out Jelly Bean to the devices in question.
