Samsung Galaxy S4 Latest Ad Spot Slams Apple Again

Alexandra Burlacu

Samsung released its latest commercial for the Galaxy S4 smartphone, once again targeting the iPhone in a classic anti-Apple spot.

The South Korean company again points out the drawbacks of Apple's iOS smartphone, while touting the cool new features, such as Air View, on the Samsung Galaxy S4.

The latest ad, first spotted by CNET, shows a batch of teenagers who just graduated and are celebrating at a pool party with their shiny new Galaxy S4 handsets. The parents, meanwhile, obviously have no idea what's cool and what's not (in Samsung's opinion) and use iPhones, some even sporting the newest iPhone 5 flagship. Basically, Samsung tries to portray the iPhone as old news — teenagers rock the new Galaxy S4 while parents are stuck with iOS devices.

The host of the party and the main character in the spot takes viewers through a set of situations meant to boast the Galaxy S4's importance at such a special occasion. The food includes ribs, for instance, which are quite messy despite their deliciousness. No worries, Samsung's Air View technology allows Galaxy S4 owners to answer calls with the wave of a (sticky) hand, without having to touch the device.

In another scene, a woman snaps a picture and immediately shares the goods with her friend via, of course, the Samsung Galaxy S4's S Bean file transfer protocol. One of the parents wants the photo as well, but her phone doesn't have that cool transfer feature.

"So some smartphones are smarter than other smartphones," a father finally ponders. "Exactly," a girl quickly replies, showing bit of superiority. "Well, what are we doing with these phones?" the disappointed father asks, holding up his iPhone. Subtle, right?

Meanwhile, two young girls sitting by the pool are enjoying the Galaxy S4's Drama Shot, which can snap consecutive pictures of a moving scene, stitch them together and form an action sequence in a single frame.

The father of the main character, however, is most impressed with the Galaxy S4's remote-control functionality. Once he sets eyes on that feature, he finally understands. He smiles a bit, and viewers can easily tell he's been converted to Samsung.

All in all, Samsung's latest TV ad for the Galaxy S4 clearly shows the company is not yet tired of making fun of its Cupertino rival. Far from it; Samsung is again suggesting that Apple is a brand for old people, while youngsters know what the good stuff is. And that's the Samsung Galaxy S4.
