Samsung Galaxy S4 Sells 10M Units In First Month, More Color Options Coming This Summer

Alexandra Burlacu

The Samsung Galaxy S4 has set a new record for the South Korean tech giant, reaching the 10-million milestone in less than one month of it hitting the consumer market.

While it's no secret that the new Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphone is in high demand, selling 10 million units in such a short amount of time is an impressive achievement nonetheless. The Galaxy S4 sold faster than any of its predecessors.

The popular Samsung Galaxy S3, for instance, hit the 10-million milestone 50 days after its commercial debut, which means the new iteration sold nearly twice as fast. The Galaxy S2 and the original Galaxy S reached the same milestone in five and seven months, respectively.

"On behalf of Samsung, I would like to thank the millions of customers around the world who have chosen the Samsung GALAXY S4," said JK Shin, CEO and President of the IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics. "At Samsung we'll continue to pursue innovation inspired by and for people."

The Samsung Galaxy S4 made its commercial debut on April 27 and the new 10 million mark makes it the most popular Galaxy smartphone to date. The handset is so popular, in fact, that four Galaxy S4 units are sold every second.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 comes with lots of neat features, including eye pause and eye scroll, which come in handy for pausing videos and scrolling on the handset's display based on the user's eye movements. The smartphone's specs include a 5-inch full-HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor clocked at 1.9GHz and 2GB of RAM.

Other features include Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean software, dual cameras - a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front shooter, a 2,600 mAh battery. Available configurations include 16GB, 32GB and 64GB of internal storage, with a micro SD card slot for expandable memory.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 is currently available in more than 100 countries and will gradually reach a total of 155 countries, collaborating with 327 partners.

In addition to announcing the 10-million mark, Samsung also announced plans to offer more color options for the Samsung Galaxy S4. The smartphone is currently available only in Black Forest and White Mist variants, but new color options such as Blue Arctic, Red Aurora, Purple Mirage and Brown Autumn will be available this summer.
