The Sony Xperia Tablet Z is designed to be waterproof and one owner decided to check these claims by placing the tablet in a fish tank.

Sony made a lot of waves with its new waterproof devices designed to resist up to 30 minutes submerged in water, but it's always nice to see demonstrations of how well it actually performs.

One Xperia Tablet Z owner decided to boost confidence and put the slate through a waterproof test to see how well it fares. The video shows the Xperia Tablet Z submerged in a fish tank and the slate performs great, without any issues. The tablet records video while inside the tank and shoots some really nice close up footage of the fishes.

The Sony Xperia Tablet Z sports a 10.1-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels, a quad-core Qualcomm APQ8064 processor clocked at 1.5GHz and 2GB of RAM under the hood and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean running the show. Other specs include 32GB of internal storage, a micro SD card slot for additional memory and an 8.1-megapixel rear-facing camera boasting Sony's Exmor R sensor.

The Sony Xperia Tablet Z also features NFC and LTE and has a 6,000 mAh battery which should provide a decent battery life.

Ruggedized devices that are water resistant and dustproof are increasingly gaining momentum, as people are looking for durable handsets that are worth the money. Such features make people more confident in investing a considerable amount of money in a gadget, be it a smartphone or a tablet, because it's not so fragile. Spilling some water on the device is no longer an issue, and God knows how many devices saw their death by drowning.

Sony actually set a trend with its water resistant Xperia Z smartphone and Xperia Tablet Z, inspiring others to follow suit as well. LG just launched its Optimus GJ smartphone, which is a waterproof version of the LG Optimus G, while Samsung is reportedly preparing to unleash Galaxy Active handset as a rugged, dustproof and waterproof version of its Galaxy S4 flagship smartphone.
