The recently-unveiled Acer Iconia W3 Windows 8 tablet is now up for pre-order at major retailers, with prices starting from around $350.
The Acer Iconia W3 comes as the world's first 8.1-inch Windows 8 tablet and packs some decent specs for its price tag. The slate features a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels and draws power from an Intel Atom Z2760 Clover Trail dual-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz, with the ability to overclock it with Intel Burst Technology up to 1.8GHz.
Other specs under the hood include 64GB of Intel Graphics Media Accelerator and 2GB of RAM. The tablet comes with 32GB of internal storage and a micro SD card slot for additional memory.
"The Iconia W3 provides an unprecedented tablet experience, with a design that is compact enough to use comfortably in one hand for reading and web browsing, and a screen large enough for entertainment and desktop applications," Acer touted in a press release earlier this month. "It's ideal for professionals, students and families who want the ease of a one-hand tablet with access to programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote."
"With the Iconia W3, Acer is giving those who create, read, work and play in the Windows environment a device they can hold in one hand that does it all," added Michael Birkin, Acer's Chief Marketing Officer. "With the combination of Windows 8 and a sleek 8-inch design, the W3 is a joy to use and a better way to have fun and productivity on the go."
The new Acer Iconia W3 tablet is now available for pre-order from Amazon, Staples and Office Depot. Amazon and Staples sell the 8-inch Windows 8 slate for a $379.99 starting price, while Office Depot offers the tablet for the same $379.99 but with $30 instant savings, i.e. $349.99.
Those who decide to pre-order the Acer Iconia W8 from Amazon will have a bit longer to wait, as the retailer lists orders put in now to start shipping in three to four weeks. Staples offers more prompt shipments, claiming the slates will start shipping out on June 15. Officec Depot doesn't mention the shipping date.
