Nokia is preparing for a big press event on July 11 and the "Zoom Reinvented" teaser on the press invites point to the much-rumored Lumia EOS camera smartphone.
The event will take place in New York and judging by the invite, the majestic Nokia Lumia EOS smartphone will make its debut, presumably sporting a 41-megapixel camera. The Finnish company already has a 41-megapixel camera phone, the Nokia 808 PureView, but that handset runs on the outdated Symbian operating system.
Nokia is widely expected to unveil another 41-megapixel camera smartphone, as part of its Lumia range of smartphones running on Windows 8. The press invite to the July 11 event doesn't give out much about what's to come, but the rumored Nokia Lumia EOS is the best bet.
Rumors of a Windows 8-running Lumia smartphone packing a 41-megapixel sensor, similar to the Nokia 808 PureView, have been making round for a good while. Nokia did not confirm anything whatsoever regarding this smartphone or its camera sensor, but the Nokia EOS leaked extensively over the past month.
Judging by some leaked images of the purported handset from Chinese site WPDang and Twitter tipster @vizileaks, the Nokia Lumia EOS may carry the same design language as the Lumia 920, sporting a body made of polycarbonate materials. The smartphone is also expected to feature an OLED display with a resolution of 768 x 1280 pixels. In terms of storage, the Nokia EOS may have a 32GB capacity.
Other reports, meanwhile, suggested that the purported Nokia EOS camera smartphone will boast a new "Nokia Pro Camera" app with a revamped interface. This app will reportedly complement the regular camera app and the refreshed interface will offer a manual focus option as well. AT&T is reportedly testing the device already.
While rumors and leaks regarding the purported smartphone are far from scarce, keep in mind that nothing is confirmed just yet. Nokia made no official announcement and the "EOS" moniker is just a codename, which means it may not be the final name.
It's difficult to say with all certainty whether Nokia will indeed unveil a 41-megapixel monster as part of its Lumia range of smartphones, but one thing's for sure: the Finnish company does have something special planned for July 11 and "Zoom Reinvented" clearly indicates the surprise refers to some camera capabilities. Nokia fans are eagerly waiting for a Nokia 808 PureView's counterpart running on Windows 8 and the camera smartphone may make its debut in less than one month.
