The upcoming wave of high-end smartphones will rock Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 800 chip and the next-generation LG Optimus G is no exception.
Sony and Samsung will reportedly launch new devices running on Qualcomm's latest SoC, but LG is the first device manufacturer to officially announce a Snapdragon 800-powered smartphone - the successor to the LG Optimus G.
"With a powerful combination of LG's core smartphone technologies and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, we are taking a significant step forward in the mobile experience," Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Mobile Communications Company, touts in the press release. "The result of this collaboration will in many ways be the industry's best smartphone by which all other devices will be measured."
"We are pleased with continued collaboration with LG," adds Murthy Renduchintala, Executive Vice President at Qualcomm Inc. and co-president at Qualcomm mobile and computing. "Fully tailored and tightly integrated with the entire next G series platform, the new, best-in-class Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor will help deliver blazing fast web browsing, eye-popping graphics, seamless connectivity as well as an unmatched multimedia experience."
LG and Qualcomm also remind consumers that the new Snapdragon 800 chip delivers up to 75 percent better performance than the Snapdragon S4 Pro chip found in the LG Optimus G. The two companies further add that 4G LTE Carrier Aggregation makes data speeds "even faster," while users will also be able to enjoy greater battery life, ultra HD video capture, support for displays with whopping resolutions of up to 2560 x 2480, and other neat features.
It's worth noting, however, that LG avoids calling its upcoming smartphone the LG Optimus G2. Instead, the company refers to it as the "next G series smartphone," so it's tough to tell for now how the handset will be called.
The next-generation LG Optimus G is expected to pack 2GB of RAM, a 5-inch 1080p display and a 13-megapixel camera, among other things. The press release doesn't detail any specs for the device, nor does it offer an image or note when it will become available. This means that all that's certain for now is that the next-generation LG Optimus G is on its way and will boast the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 800.
