A seemingly leaked storyboard for a Verizon commercial indicates that the upcoming Motorola Droid Maxx will boast an impressive battery life: up to 48 hours.
While most smartphone manufacturers decided to sacrifice battery performance so they can shave off another tenth of an inch off the profile of their handsets, Motorola remained one of the few companies to stubbornly focus on battery life. The company insisted on offering handsets with long battery life, even if the smartphone turns out a bit bulkier. For many users, meanwhile, a thin profile is less important if they carry a dead phone in their pocket.
If this leaked storyboard published by Android Central is any indication, Motorola plans to keep offering extra-large batteries with some of its upcoming handsets. The company is working with Verizon to bring a new line of Droid smartphones to the market and at least one of them will apparently boast a long battery life of up to 48 hours.
Halle Berry and Daniel Craig make an appearance on the purported storyboard as well, but that's less relevant. They were likely just some random images of celebrities for illustration. The device featured likely serves the same illustration purpose and is not the actual product.
The battery mention, however, is intriguing. Companies often make various claims in ads that don't match up the real performance. On the other hand, even if the new Droid doesn't offer precisely 48 hours of battery performance, it will probably still have a longer battery life when compared to current high-end flagships such as the Samsung Galaxy S4, HTC One or other top Android smartphones currently available on the market.
Last year's Droid Razr Maxx HD, for instance, is 9.3-millimeter thick and boasts a massive 3,300 mAh battery, which is still the best one can get on a mainstream smartphone. Verizon claims that its Razr Maxx HD can go through 13 hours of straight video playback or eight hours of web browsing over LTE.
"Maxx means this Android phone comes with industry-leading battery life," Verizon touts on the Droid Razr Maxx HD product page. "Talking, streaming, music, reading and browsing the web, you name it, you can do it longer - without the constant worry of charging."
If the "Maxx" moniker means "industry-leading battery life," the upcoming Motorola Droid Maxx should rock an extra-long battery life, possibly beating the performance of its Droid Razr Maxx HD predecessor.
