Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 32GB drops $50 off initial price tag, now costs $249.99

Verizon just slashed the price of the 32GB Samsung Galaxy S4 from $300 to a more affordable $250.

The 32GB version of Samsung's new flagship smartphone joined Verizon's lineup just a few weeks ago, but it appears the carrier is already applying a notable discount. This should come as good news for those looking for the higher-capacity model, especially since it's not available just anywhere.

While the 16GB version of the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 is available at various retailers, Verizon decided to reserve an exclusive for its 32GB version.

When the smartphone made its commercial debut, Big Red announced only the 16GB version of the Samsung Galaxy S4. A few weeks after the handset's launch, AT&T became the only carrier to offer the higher-capacity version for more storage-hungry users. In a move likely aiming to heat up competition, Verizon then decided to go for the 32GB model as well. That announcement was followed by several weeks of silence, after which Verizon announced that the 32GB version would arrive in early July.

When it launched, Verizon's higher-capacity Samsung Galaxy S4 sported a price tag that was $50 more expensive than AT&T's respective model. Verizon offered its 32GB Galaxy S4 for $300 on a two-year contract, but the new discount now brings it in line with AT&T's pricing.

On the other hand, the previous $300 price came with a $50 mail-in rebate, which is now off the table. In other words, Verizon took that mail-in rebate and applied it directly, slashing $50 off the initial price tag.

The 32GB Samsung Galaxy S4 was especially well-received after Samsung went under fire for the real storage capacity on its 16GB Galaxy S4. While the company marketed 16GB, only 9GB were actually available to users and there was no option to move hefty apps to the micro SD card. Samsung ultimately offered a fix and Sprint, AT&T and Verizon issued updates for their Samsung Galaxy S4, adding apps-to-SD card support, among other features.

A higher storage capacity out of the box, however, is preferable for those who can afford the more expensive model. With Verizon's new price cut, interested buyers can now get the 32GB Samsung Galaxy S4 for $250, the same price they would pay for AT&T's respective version. Those interested in the offer can find it on Verizon's website
