AT&T users can finally rejoice, as the carrier has finally started rolling out the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update for the Samsung Galaxy S3.
Other versions of the U.S. Samsung Galaxy S3 have already received the Android 4.1.2 upgrade but AT&T was a bit late to the party. Nonetheless, the carrier is finally updating its version of the smartphone.
The software update brings several new features and improvements, aiming to maximize the Galaxy S3's performance. Samsung's Premium Suite upgrade, for instance, is very popular for bringing multi-window support to the smartphone, and it's now available with the new update.
"Beginning August 7, Samsung Galaxy S III customers (including those customers on previous software versions ICS) will receive a device notification informing users that the software update is available. Wi-Fi is required for the update," AT&T announced.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 will get several new goodies according to the carrier, including Multi Window support, Auto Share Shot with NFC, new camera features, new AT&T apps and other enhancements.
Multi Window support will allow users to open two apps simultaneously into two different windows on the smartphone's display. Users will also be able to set the smartphone's camera to "Auto Share Shot" mode, using NFC too quickly share their photos and videos with other NFC and S-Beam-compatible devices. The camera gets new options such as Paper Artist and "best face," while new AT&T apps include AT&T services, Drive Mode, AT&T Locker, Live TV, Family Map and SmartWifi. The update also includes enhancements to the calendar, SD card and S-Voice.
AT&T has already started rolling out the update over the air (OTA). If users don't manually update their devices, AT&T will start sending notifications on Aug. 7. Various whispers have suggested that the Samsung Galaxy S3 may skip the Android 4.2 update and jump straight to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, but nothing has been confirmed.
For now, Samsung Galaxy S3 users on AT&T are getting Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. It may not be the very latest version of Android, but it brings some improvements nonetheless. The carrier made no mention of other future updates to newer versions.
