A new concept envisions how the Google Nexus 5 smartphone could look like if it were made by Sony.
Google has already launched one new Nexus device this year and the rest of the lineup should get the same treatment soon. The LG-made Nexus 4 was a great hit with consumers and it sold at a whopping pace, as its affordable price tag and the Nexus experience were huge turn-ons.
The smartphone was so popular, in fact, that Google was overwhelmed and had problems keeping up with demand. The Nexus 4 sold out in the blink of an eye and both Google and LG faced severe criticism for failing to properly anticipate demand.
With a new Nexus 7 already out, the rumor mill turned to the next-generation Nexus smartphone and the refreshed Nexus 10 tablet, both of which are yet to be announced. Despite lots of rumors and speculations, it remains unclear which company will make the Nexus 5. While some believe that Google will stick with LG for the new generation as well, others speculated that Motorola may get the gig. Some, meanwhile, wondered whether Sony would be a better choice for the new Nexus 5.
A new idea from Concept Phones now paints a picture of how the Nexus 5 could look like if Sony were behind it. The concept is the work of Ben Ling, who named it the Sony Google Nexus 5.
In Ling's vision, the Sony-made Nexus 5 sports a 4.6-inch Full HD (1080p) Triluminos display with Gorilla Glass 3 protection, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.3GHz and 2GB of RAM. The concept device also packs a whopping 20.7-megapixel rear camera with an LED flash and Exmor RS sensor. The same camera is also rumored for the Sony Honami, also referred to as Xperia i1.
The Sony Google Nexus 5's camera would also boast a Sony G lens with a 1/2.3-inch sensor and 16x digital zoom. Other features of the handset include a 3,050 mAh removable battery and an LED illumination bar with 4G LTE support.
Ling did not only envision a name and specs for the Sony-made Nexus 5, but he even thought about pricing. The 16GB version of the handset would retail for $349, while the 32GB model would cost $399. Let us know if you think this concept sounds interesting or not. The Google Nexus 5 will likely not come from Sony, but it's an interesting concept nonetheless.
