The much-rumored LG Google Nexus 5 smartphone may make its debut on Oct. 14, rocking a new Android 4.4 KitKat mobile operating system.
Google is notoriously bad at keeping its future plans secret. The new Nexus 7, for instance, went in sale even before the company got to officially announce it, and virtually all specs of the tablet were known before the big unveiling.
The same case seems to apply to the upcoming Nexus smartphone, dubbed Nexus 5 and purportedly made by LG. The smartphone has leaked in a video at the official announcement of Android 4.4 KitKat, although Google pulled said video soon after. Various leaks of the handset passing through the FCC, as well as a number of mockup designs have surfaced as well, all pointing toward an imminent LG Google Nexus 5.
Tech site Ausdroid now claims to have received some information regarding the launch of the Nexus 5 and some of the features Android 4.4 KitKat will have to offer.
According to the publication's anonymous tipster, the LG Google Nexus 5 will make its debut on Oct. 14 with Android 4.4 KitKat on board and launch commercially in November.
Judging by Google's past launch schedules, an October unveiling and a November release for the new Nexus smartphone would make sense. Keep in mind, however, that the anonymous tip could not be verified and Ausdroid itself said it's taking the new info "with a large grain of salt."
The source further claimed that the phone featured in the briefly-available Android 4.4 KitKat video is indeed the Nexus 5. Moreover, the tipster sent over a list of features the next version of Android will allegedly bring to the table.
Android 4.4 KitKat will reportedly work on older phones as well, bring fragmentation changes (screen resizing), Miracast updates, new APIs regarding animations, a new Gallery visualization, and new notification widgets.
Taking all rumors, leaks, and Google's previous launch schedules into account, a Nexus 5 announcement seems imminent. Neither Google nor LG, however, have confirmed having a new Nexus smartphone in the pipeline, which means that nothing is official just yet.
