Motorola is reportedly gearing up to launch a lower-cost version of the Moto X, dubbed the Motorola DVX, and some images of the device have now emerged.
The Moto X is Motorola's latest flagship smartphone and it is the first handset to launch since Google acquired the company. Despite the fact that it is a mid-range handset, the Moto X sports a price tag that many feel is too high for what the smartphone has to offer in terms of specs.
A while back, Motorola CEO Dennis Woodside promised that his company would launch a more budget-friendly version of the Moto X in the future, and it appears the company is making good on its promise.
"The experience of devices you can get for less than $200 is subpar right now," said the CEO at the time. "We want everyone to have access to affordable smartphones. Moto X is the brand that we are most focused on. And there is more to come. You will see additional products within months," Woodside further revealed back in early August.
A previous Republic Wireless presentation mentioned October as the launch timeframe for the lower-cost Motorola DVX, but the relevant slide has since been removed from the presentation.
Fast forward to present day, a Reddit post points out that some images purportedly showing the Motorola DVX have popped up in the FCC's database.
"Motorola have submitted new documents for the FCC certification of GSM variant of Motorola DVX (FCC if IHDT56PF1). They were kind enough to provide test setup photos. Now we can see the phone."
The images show the front and back of the fully-assembled phone and seem to fall in line with previously leaked images of the smartphone's back plate. In terms of design, the purported Motorola DVX seems to resemble the Moto X, but the speaker grill and the front camera seem to be relocated.
The newly-unveiled FCC documents confirm that the device is GSM and WCDMA compatible (apparently no LTE) and sports a removable back plate.
"In other news Motorola also certified a Sprint compatible DVX recently," the Reddit post further adds. "It's for Sprint because it supports CDMA bands 0,1,10 which is a set of bands used by Sprint. In the filing they listed three model numbers. One of the models is coming to Republic Wireless, two others are probably going to Virgin Mobile, Boost, Ting, etc."
The purported low-cost Motorola DVX may be commercialized as the Motorola XT 1032, XT 1033 and XT 1035 model numbers. The FCC documents make absolutely no mention of NFC, which likely means the Motorola DVX will not support the technology.
