Skype announced it is working on some upcoming improvements, which will include better syncing of chat messages across devices, as well as battery conservation.
In an effort to improve the overall experience for its numerous users, Skype is working on some neat tweaks and improvements that will roll out soon. According to the company, the main changes will occur in how the average user enjoys the service, considering that increasingly more people are accessing Skype on smartphones and tablets.
Those who use Skype both on their mobile devices and on their desktop are likely very aware of the service's poor performance in syncing chat messages across different devices. More specifically, if you start a conversation on your desktop, for instance, but have to go out and want to continue chatting on mobile, you would not exactly pick up right where you left off because the service often faces great delays in syncing conversations.
In some (rare) cases, it may sync the messages across devices pretty fast. In other cases, however, if you switched from one device to another, it fails to show messages as they arrive, only to pour them all at once sometime later to the device you switched to. Other times, it just becomes unresponsive for a while or crashes altogether.
Skype is apparently well-aware of these issues, as the team has announced big plans to roll out chat message status syncing across devices for a smoother, more fluid user experience. The update will roll out over the next few months.
"In today's devices and services world more and more people choose to use Skype from devices like smartphones and tablet PCs that rely on battery power, that on average have less processing power than modern desktop computers, and that are not physically or permanently connected to the Internet," explained the Skype team. "This shift in the way people use Skype has required us to enhance and augment our P2P connectivity as well as conserving battery and processing power, while delivering even more of the functionality and reliability that our users expect."
Skype is a very popular service, especially for people who want to keep in touch with faraway relatives or friends. It's a good and reliable service most of the times, but some improvements are overdue. If all goes according to plan, the Skype experience across devices should greatly improve in the next few months.
