Apple reportedly has an invitation-only event scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 22, where the company will likely unveil its next iPad line.
The iMaker has already introduced its new iPhone lineup with the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, which means that the next event should focus on the iPad and perhaps the Mac lines.
The company has not officially announced the event, but AllThingsD claims to have learned from "people familiar with Apple's plans" that it will occur on Oct. 22.
"The focal point of the gathering will be the company's iPad line, but the new Mac Pro and OS X Mavericks will likely get some stage time as well, I'm told," reads the report.
The next-generation iPad, dubbed the iPad 5, is expected to sport a thinner and lighter design similar to the iPad Mini's. The new iPad is also rumored to pack Apple's new 64-bit A7 chip and boast an enhanced camera. The second-generation iPad Mini, meanwhile, will reportedly get a Retina Display, something that many users have been requesting. The iPad Mini 2 would also have the A7 under the hood.
It remains unclear at this point, however, if the next-generation iPad Mini and the full-sized iPad 5 will tout Apple's Touch ID fingerprint scanner that recently debuted on the new iPhone 5S. If rumors are to be believed, the fingerprint sensor should find its way to the next-gen tablets as well.
While AllThingsD revealed the alleged date of the announcement, it says that its sources refused to specify the exact location of the event.
"My understanding is that it will not be held at the California Theatre in San Jose, the site of the iPad mini's unveiling in 2012. That leaves Apple's Town Hall Auditorium in Cupertino and the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco as the two most likely locations," further adds the report.
If the Oct. 22 date sounds familiar, it's because it is also the date for both Nokia's Innovation Reinvented and the commercial launch of Microsoft's Surface 2 tablet in the U.S. Some may believe in coincidences, but Apple likely wants to steal Nokia and Microsoft's thunder with its own announcement and draw all attention on its iNews.
